"Kool looK"

Every now & then we see people making comments like this...this time when i was making this comment i just realised that by mis-spelling it i have made a new palindrome...& i said 'AHA' ...oh my god! its a palindrome again.
This excited me & took me to google to search more for palindrome...this search led me to great talked about Panama Canal palindrome.
Jim Saxe was perhaps the first person to put a cat in the canal.
A man, a plan, a cat, a canal; Panama!-- Jim Saxe, plan file @ CMU, 9 October 1983
Guy Jacobson added several items later that year.
A man, a plan, a cat, a ham, a yak, a yam, a hat, a canal--Panama!-- Guy Jacobson, plan file @ CMU late 1983
Dan Hoey dredged up the problem in 1984, and discovered the following 540-word version using a Unix program.(for those interested visit http://www.big.net/djs/pali.html)

“The real wonder?”

I remember quote of M.C.Escher, “He who wonders discovers that this in itself is wonder.”
Wonder in itself is a great word (some quick meanings,
· Noun:   something that causes feelings of wonder (Example: "The wonders of modern science")
· Noun:   the feeling aroused by something strange and surprising
· Noun:   a state in which you want to learn more about something
· Verb:   have a wish or desire to know something (Example: "He wondered who had built this beautiful church")
· Verb:   place in doubt or express doubtful speculation (Example: "I wonder whether this was the right thing to do")
· Verb:   be amazed at)
Recently I received a picture with few touching lines. It may have been read by many but thought of writing as I liked them.
The lines were: “A group of students were asked to list what they thought are the “seven wonders of the world.” Though there were disagreements following received the max votes: Egypt’s great pyramids, Grand Canyon, Panama Canal, empire state building, Taj Mahal, St. Peter’s basilica, China’s great wall. (For those interested to know about seven wonders ,chk out the link http://www.123world.com/wonders/ not so exciting but yes can be visited once)

While collecting the votes the teacher noticed that one girl has not finished the paper yet. So she asked the girl if she had trouble with her list. The girl replied “Yes, a little. I could not make up my mind as there are so many.”

The teacher asked “Tell us what you have, may be we can help.” The girl read “I think “seven wonders of world” are:
1) to see 2) to hear 3) to touch 4) to feel 5) to taste 6) to laugh ,and 7) to love.
The room was quiet listening to this.”

The things we take as ordinary & simple and that we take for granted are simply wondrous. It’s really true but how many of us really understand the worth of it is a big question. Do we really feel great enjoying these wonders? Have we not broken the hearts of someone who love us? The questions need to be answered only by us…….

What’s the end?

Last week I read a very different kind of short story. Here it is in the abstract form. “She dressed up daily like a perfect Indian lady, with a bindi on the forehead & whatever accessories a married woman wears. She was extremely beautiful. A beautiful face but the smile of the face was lost somewhere. Daily she used to stand near the window waiting for her husband who had gone to Australia after marriage for making his career and from then there was no news. After a year they had got the news that he has got a very good job there.
One day she saw an unknown man standing outside the window staring her. She was angry looking at the man but later got to know that the man was the son of Kaushalya aunty in the neighborhood & was her husband's childhood friend Shankar, who had left the city for business before her marriage & has returned today.
Shankar came to her house next day. Met with her in-laws and showed his discontent for his friend who had left his family in a state of despair. He talked to her also for sometime. He started coming to her house daily with one reason or the other & after few days proposed her for marriage.
She told about the proposal to her in-laws. The mother-in-law was red with anger & said her son will return one day. But the father-in-law was a sensible man, he said she can’t wait for a person who has not contacted her for five years & permitted her to marry Shankar. That night she was very disturbed about her future & it was very difficult for her to sleep. At last, she thought that it was a practical decision to marry Shankar. The next morning Kaushalaya aunty came to her house & was very excited. But the scene was different, she came with a news that Shankar has gone to Australia for business....."
The story ended on this note & asked the readers to complete it. I was amazed with the twists & turns in her life. What do you think can be the possible end of the story? Any ending from your point of view, feel free to write in comments.

"I am playing five-day test match & not a one-day"

These were the words of Chindamabaram when India's new FM(not Radio FM ;-) but Finance Minister) presented his first budget.
With Manmohan Singh as PM,Chidambaram as FM and Montek Singh Ahluwalia in Planning Commission, it is considered to be the best trio a nation's economy can have today.
The new govts. come & go, but the basic problems of the country remain the same.Do we think why? Just go over these mind-blowing facts, out of 1 billion Indian population only about 3 crore file income tax returns.Out of which only 1.5 crore pay income tax. Do we have only these handful in the country whose income is taxable?
Are we going to blame only govt for implementation of rules or Everytime someone has to teach us that in a democracy rights come along with duties? How many of us who belong to educated class have motivated any other to perform civic duties?
Its really painful to write such a blog after looking at a poor & weak old man pushing a cart for his living after fifty years of independence. At some point i also find myself to be responsible for the country's progress as I am enjoying to live with freedom in a country called India.
I know this country has bright minds. So,after reading this blog even if one person gets enlightened & educates one other person my aim of writing the blog is fulfilled.

"Of course, it is not that every time you are going to win. But I am a kind of person who loves to fight & to win.”

While writing this blog I feel why am I writing on this piece of line? Is it the beauty of words which I like or the depth which lies in the meaning?

The truth is that this statement by Russian Wimbledon champion Maria rejuvenates in every young heart the enthusiasm to fight with the situations and win in life. Some people may call it philosophical or getting weighed down by thoughts.

If it is so why when we read sentences like "Failures are the stepping stones to success" we feel more motivated after a failure or we stick posters with quotes like "Think positive" on the walls of our study or library.

Practically life is synonymous "to fight" - to fight for existence such that it follows the Darwin's theory "Survival of the Fittest", to fight with the situations and conditions to achieve what you want in life.
The question is until when is this fight going to continue? Who is your opponent? When will you be declared winner?
The reality is that fighting is the spirit of life the rules of the game change, your opponents change, the funniest part is that with every fight the goal also changes. What remains same is your passion to fight & your desire to win.
And every win or defeat recursively brings you down to the same words with which I began to write - it is not that I am always going to win but I love to fight & to win.

Life is Beautiful

A small phrase with a lot of meaning in store.
Just imagine what comes to our minds when we think about the word 'life' or the very first thought which comes to our minds when we say 'Beautiful'.
To some life is a synonym of thrill, fun & excitement while to others it may mean struggle, hard work & commitment for fulfilling the dreams. It may mean different to all of us but it symbolizes with it enthusiasm & zeal to do something and probably that’s what is called life.
For some beautiful may bring the thoughts about the nature, trees, flowers while to others it may mean the relationship with the loved ones- it hardly matters that the loved one is part of our family or our beloved.
To this some may argue that those who say life is beautiful probably have not seen anything ugly in life.
The only thing which bothers me is when we are surrounded by so many goodies in this world why at times we feel -'Nothing is Beautiful in Life' due to some momentary pain?
